Archive for the “Public Domain Images” Category

Jogging around the world wide web today looking for a Public Domain Image Resource. I know, I know… lot’s of very large archives exist. I just wanted a quick place to pick up a few images for an article or two… quick.

National Freemdom ImageI’ve been feeling the need to express my opinion about the current presidential debate… of course, I needed some clip art!

The Public Domain Clip Art Blog hosts a small archive of images, clip art and copyright free - royalty free - attribution free photographs.

Because of it’s small holdings… it’s not overwhelming to try to choose an image.

Looking under the 4th of July heading… I found several photographs of firework displays over water that are very good quality, and this public domain poster which is a good “neutral” political image.

Under Political Images I found many satirical cartoons with elephants and “donkeys” representing out political parties.

Why I Don’t Love BaseballWhy I Don’t Love Baseball

It’s not that I dislike baseball or don’t understand the game… the problem lies with 12 years of watching little league and high school baseball games and practices. Endless games of baseball… and the stress of watching my boys win or loose.

How in the world was I supposed to comfort a 16 year old after his team lost? I guess I just hit overwhelm

Well… not so for a traveling companion of ours. He loves all things sports… especially baseball. We don’t travel anywhere without satellite radio.

The point? I am going to write an article on a personal blog… just for him… about my distaste for all things baseball and I needed a quick public domain image resource.

Public Domain Images

I found this image on Flickr… is it a public domain image?

Public Domain images are controlled by copyright restrictions just as any other creative work is protected under the copyright laws. If an image is in the public domain… it must be a published image that the copyright has expired.

Creative Commons License photo credit: piddy77

Also… the image must not contain anything that might violate a trademark… such as an ad for Coco-Cola.Free Public Domain Images

Creative Commons License photo credit: SantaRosa OLD SKOOL

Plus… the image must not contain a likeness of a recognizable person unless that person has agreed that the photograph may be published.

The images featured on this page are not violating trademark nor are they violating someones right to privacy.

But… is it considered Public Domain? No… but it is free to use as I wish… either for personal or commercial endeavors.

Why? I used the Flickr advanced search feature and agree to attribute the photo to the producer of the image.

When that search feature is used and I agree that I must give credit to the photographer… I am now free to use any image I find within those search results.

Remember this! Flickr is not a “free to use for anything” website. But… you can, buy using Creative Commons licensing … use Flickr Images just as easily as Public Domain Images.
