Posted by: THAT Public Domain Diva in niche researchCaptain Logan over at http://www.publicdomaintreasuremap.com has asked me to help out the membership. It seems that the new members are hungry for Ideas For Niche Markets Using Public Domain Products.
Knowing that I am really… really good at digging for ideas, Logan thinks I could teach you a few things about niche markets and the finding of profitable ones to dive into. Of course, this is a huge topic and covered pretty darn deep inside the membership area of Public Domain Treasure Map but I thought I would give out a few good ways to find profitable ideas for niche markets.
The first thing about using public domain material is to know if you are working on a profit making idea!
Now… you all know that you must first do research… research and more research, before you even think about hunting for public domain material to use for a new niche project.
It’s fun to go to the local used book store, hunt around on eBay or get free PD information of the internet. But… why waste your time when you don’t know if what your looking at can be used to actually create an income stream?
If you’re looking for some quick Public Domain Product Ideas that haven’t been researched yet… check out this site:
I promised you 10 Ideas didn’t I? So here we go:
- Hunting and Fishing are big… HUGE… niches. My husband is a weekend fisher… along with his friends and his dad, they love to go fishing. Personally, I don’t get the point… but, when he hits a sporting goods store… he is just like me in an old book store. Big Grin on his face and a full shopping cart. His father has come up with some really unusual fishin ideas… things he uses for floats and bait and I don’t know what else… Some of these ideas came from other fishermen and some ideas are ones he remembers from his childhood. The point is… I don’t have to do much research in this niche. I know it’s profitable… and has a huge audience.
- Public Domain Information: Lures and Bait. Their is information on this subject in the public domain.
- Old Movies are part of several different niches. Baby Boomers and older love to watch movies from their generation. The younger generation seems to have a great fascination with old movies. This is a big niche. What about Joan Crawford? I don’t know if any of her first movies are in the Public Domain… but some of her images are. What if you had a site centered around everything Joan Crawford? Just let your mind go with that idea…..
- Poetry is a small niche. But - Learn to write poetry or Love Poem collections or ??? Their are kids in school that need to learn how to write poetry… fast. Their is someone in love that would like to send a daily love poem. Their are people all over the world that would like to learn the basics of writing poetry. Could you teach someone how to write poetry?
- Wrought Iron - Yes. I got this idea from my neighbor. He has his own forge! And he is a member of a club that build hand made iron things. Do you think that is a small niche? Is their public domain information about working with iron? What do you think?Maybe they need to learn how to build their own forge? What tools will the need? What did the old time iron workers use?Maybe someone would like to know about iron chandeliers? What do the look like, what style homes used iron chandeliers? How do you build a chandelier? How do you wire the electricity in a chandelier?
- Budget and how to live a frugal life? This is a red hot topic right now. Many people have been laid off or lost their homes… Gas is sky high as well as food prices. Do you think some of that old public domain material might have ideas about living a frugal life? I’m not talking about “back to nature”… that’s the next topic. I’m just thinking about - cheap ways to make stuff we use in daily life. Or… how to re-use things instead of throwing them away. People during the depression learned how to stretch everything… and they recorded these ideas for us to use.
- Back To Nature - Going Green! A few generations ago… some things were very “Green”. Household cleaners, food, natural cures for health, disinfecting water, bicycles… what else can you think of that is all about the “Green” movement? It’s happening right now… get on the train.
- Babies. There have always been babies. And homemade baby food. And homemade baby clothes. And homemade baby toys. Plus, babies don’t come with directions… and everyone thinks they might be doing it wrong. Can you find a small niche to fill about babies?
- Cooking… Huge topic. Baking the best pumpkin pie. That’s a niche. Probably too small. Baking or cooking something like… the strange fish your husband caught. Or something a baby can eat. Or baking in an oven powered by solar energy. Or poems about cooking and baking. Or movies that showed someone cooking or baking. Maybe an entire website based on movies about women in the kitchen and why they loved it?
- Old Indian Legends and how they relate to modern times. It’s a stretch… but is it worth researching? It is if you are interested in Old Indian Legends. Why? Because their is a ton of information avaliable in the public domain on this subject.
- Florence Scovel Shinn - What? Who is that? I’ll tell you. She wrote several books that are now in the public domain.
- The Game of Life and How To Play It
- The Secret Door To Success
- Your Word is your Wand
I’m not going to say anymore about number 10. You will have to go and search for her works and come to your own conclusions. But…
